美术学校戏曲教育的最高学府，是国家唯一一所独立建制的极具戏曲特色的大学。是在原中国戏曲学校的基础上发展而来。1955年1月正式定名为中国戏曲学校。1978年改制为大学，更名为中国戏曲学院。
