美术学校前身是创建于杭州的"国立艺术院"，是我国第一所综合性的国立高等艺术学府，以兼容中西艺术、创造时代艺术、弘扬中华文化为办学宗旨。后经中央美术学院华东分院、浙江美术学院，1993年更名为中国美术学院。
