安微芜湖人。原名钱德富。是中国现代著名的剧作家、文艺批评家。著述包括小说、戏剧、散文、诗歌、杂文、文评、古籍校点等共有160余种。《晚清小说史》等有日译本，德译本。《李闯王》有捷克译本。
