北宋文学家、史学家。字永叔，号醉翁、六一居士，吉州吉水（今属江西）人。主张文章应“明道”、致用，对宋初以来靡丽、险怪的文风表示不满，并积极培养后进，是北宋古文运动的领袖。散文说理畅达，抒情委婉，为“唐宋八大家”之一。
