以经济学、管理学为主，包括法学、文学、理学五大学科门类的多科性大学。前身东北财经学院始建于沈阳。1959年原东财经济管理学科迁至大连，与辽宁商学院合并组成辽宁财经学院。1985年更名为东北财经大学。
